This inspired cover of the Marvin Gaye classic explains in music why Allen Hoist is called «the prodigal». Allen Hoist’s charisma reveals itself on this great track. He’s backed by producers with a vision. One true modern soul classic.

    Marvin would love this...

This release is a part of Allen Hoist «Retrofuturistic Soul Experience»,
a fertile musical encounter between prodigal singer & multiinstrumentalist
Allen Hoist from New York with some of the best artists
from the contemporary soul scene, such as London producers Marc
Mac of 4 Hero, Kaidi Tatham, Andreas Saag from Sweden and Parisian

Brian Culbertson - Bringing Back The Funk

    Released: Apr/29/2008
    Format/Source: Audio CD
    Quality: CBR 320 kbps
    Size

    http://www.jazzitude.com/culbertson_funk.htm

Keyboardist extraordinaire Brian Culbertson has a style that is a mixture of inimitable funk and suave grooves. Growing up, Culbertson was heavily influenced by the work of Maynard Ferguson, Dave Sanborn, the Brecker Brothers, Blood Sweat & Tears, James Brown, and Earth Wind & Fire. Bringing Back the Funk (GRP Records, 2008) employs outstanding musicians to accompany him on the exploration of his funk music roots, many of whom were a part of the very acts that influenced him. The album—and the fact that the sessions were recorded live just like they were in the time of these great funk bands—ensures that the vibe of the album and the song selection stays true to the authenticity of the genre.

Culbertson's first single, “Always Remember,” has burned up the charts and the album debuted at number one on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart. Maurice White, founder of Earth Wind & Fire, acts as executive producer on the project, with Culbertson producing all tracks except “Funkin' Like My Father,” which was co-produced by Bootsy Collins and “Always Remember,” produced by Sheldon Reynolds. Also featured on Bringing Back the Funk are guests including the incomparable Larry Dunn, Sheldon Reynolds, Tom Scott, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Greg Adams and Musiq Soulchild.

Travis Vega - Smooth Urban Night

    Label: Full Authority Music Group
    Style: Smooth Jazz
    Released: Apr/29/2008
    Format/Source: Audio CD
    Quality: CBR 192 kbps
    Size
    : 70,3MB

    http://www.travisvega.com/music.html

Fresh smooth urban jazz, that surrounds itself with lush overtones of r&b, latin, chill, pop, urban and blues. Created to mix soothing and relaxing mixture of smooth jazz.

"Vega's music flows like a soothing cup of tea first thing in the morning. It's a great way to get up and start the day."
    - Marc Lutz, Lodi News-Sentinel

Young guitarist Travis Vega has already released the albums Through The Valley (2004) and Just Let It Flow (2007). Travis is already a proven songwriter/composer; his recent compositions charted the SmoothJazz.com charts with radio hit singles Club Street (Les Sabler Sweet Drive) and Wine (Andrew Neu In Clear View).

Full of new ideas he couldn't resist to publish his third album Smooth Urban Night (2008), which will not only let enthuse lovers of smooth jazz guitar music. "I don't consider myself a straight ahead jazz musician, but a musician that has influences of jazz, pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock, I love to combine all those styles that have influenced me and create what feels good to me."

Following this motto one finds many new melodies enthralling audience and fellow musicians. Multi-instrumentalist Travis Vega has written, produced and performed all songs supported by his brother Jason Vega with digi drums and percussion.

In anticipation of the conclusion Travis entitles the starting song It's All Good. Travis' heritage are influences of George Benson, Wes Montgomery and Norman Brown. If you love these guitar styles, you will feel at home with Travis' guitar sound.

Vega Motion conjures the authentic feeling of contemporary life. Ambitious, direct and nevertheless full of emotion (e-motion). A repetitive melody with modern ornaments. The title song Smooth Urban Night is a melodious street finder in the urban darkness. To the end Travis shines as guitar virtuoso.

Like It Like That has a strong head bopping beat inviting for movement and dance. On Latin Knights Travis shows his deep knowledge of the Spanish school. A real mirror of the Latin scene in South California. Autumn Breeze is a return to the smooth jazz base with mellow tones.

Nite Flow is standing in a strong contrast between Travis' sensible and excellent guitar performance and the urban beat, which cannot reach the level of this sophistic guitar play.

Pacific Wind brings a breeze from Travis' home with guitar riffs along the scale. The fresh wind goes on in Summer Nights. The slow ballade Hear Me Say keeps you in uplifting mood. While Save It For Later rises the tempo to a danceable beat. With Good Feelin' closes Travis his ambitious album showcasing extensively his guitar chords.

Smooth Urban Nights is exactly what the title says. Smooth urban guitar sound at its best. No wonder that other guitar players are interested in Travis work and melodies.

With his eighth album, jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale bounces back with an upbeat, genial, somewhat vocals-oriented set. Tisdale still plucks his electric bass a-plenty and there's an abundance of mellow, easygoing jazz here, but he makes room for some notable guest singers as well. Country music star Toby Keith essays Barry White's classic "Never Give You Up," and the Gap Band's Robert Wilson, Raw J, and gospel singer Marvin Sapp stop by, as does smooth-jazz sax star Dave Koz. As per usual, the grooves are tight and the mood is mostly bright.

Stanley Jordan - State of Nature

    Label: Mack Avenue
    Style: Smooth Jazz
    Released: Apr/22/2008
    Format/Source: Audio CD
    Quality: CBR 320 kbps
    Size
    : 176MB

    http://www.amazon.com/State-Nature-Stanley-Jordan/dp/B0015I2PDQ

Stanley Jordan is one of the slickest jazz guitarists around. His expansion of the touch technique has made him legendary in jazz circles. Jordan’s method allows him to play melody and chords at the same time, creating a cascade of sound. His new album uses this cascade of sound to create a set of songs relating to a theme very close to his heart: Mother Earth.

State of Nature will be released on April 22 (Earth Day), with no coincidences ever intended. Jordan’s album carries a theme of native beauty, as each song picks up on a different part of nature and draws on the visual aspects of music to epitomize his concepts.

“Part of the reason I made this album were revelations I discovered in my journey to try to become a better person,” Jordan states. He goes on to elaborate, adding that the idea of taking care of the environment never seems to render human action. “What is it about humans that makes us so intelligent and yet so unwise?”

This thought process would prove to be the underpinning for State of Nature, as the guitar genius weaved the structures for several songs with notions of ecological issues, global warming, and the corrosion of nature. The music celebrates life while also exploring our part in the changing climate and the “state of nature.”

Musically diverse, State of Nature uses classical, jazz, and rock textures to provide a milieu for Stanley’s message of penance and accord with the earth. “A Place in Space” starts things off, provoking thoughts of the scale of the universe. Jordan swings for the fences in “All Blues,” one of the album’s best tracks.

Whether he’s weaving together the traditional strains of Mozart (“Mozart’s Piano Concerto #21”) or taking on a Joe Jackson joint (“Steppin’ Out’), Stanley’s work is free and bold. He often sizzles, producing infuriatingly intricate sounds from his supernatural guitar. The incredible riffs found on “Shadow Dance” prove his talent movingly.

With this album, Stanley Jordan manages to say more about the real state of nature than any amount of protest music ever could. His music is striking, stylish, and commanding. His synthesis of various styles ensures that his reflection on the ways of life will resound with fans of all different types of music, making State of Nature an extraordinary work of great power and possibility.
